Sandusky expected to testify during Tuesday?s sentencing hearing

Nearly a year after a grand jury first indicted Jerry Sandusky on 50 counts of child sex abuse, he will learn his sentence in Centre County Court on Tuesday.

The case led to the firings of Coach Joe Paterno and Penn State University President Graham Spanier. It also led to lawsuits and hard sanctions imposed on the university.

It has been reported that 68-year-old Sandusky will speak in his own defense, and he has been busy in his cell writing a detailed document that he’s convinced will be the key to his appeal.

Sandusky’s attorney, Joe Amendola, said, “Jerry has always said his mistake was using bad judgment and doing some of the things that led up to the accusations (like) shower(ing) with kids. He said he should have realized that that was not the thing to do. But he has always maintained and still maintains his innocence.”

Attorneys in the case will meet with Judge John Cleland on Monday to dismiss matters related to the two court sessions set for Tuesday. The first hearing Tuesday will be to determine if Sandusky is a violent sexual predator. The second will be the formal sentencing when Sandusky will learn his punishment.
