Rocky Rodriguez to Be Honored at White Out Game

Penn State women’s soccer great Raquel ‘Rocky’ Rodriguez will be honored Saturday night in Beaver Stadium at the Penn State vs. Ohio State White Out clash.

Rodriguez is being recognized for her contributions on and off the field in her four seasons with Penn State, where she picked up numerous accolades including Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year finalist, MAC Hermann Trophy winner, finalist for Best Female College Athlete at the ESPYs, Most Outstanding Player on Offense of the 2015 Women’s College Cup,  NSCAA Scholar Player of the Year, NSCAA First Team All-American, All-Big Ten First Team, and TopDrawerSoccer’s Player of the Year.

Rodriguez led the women’s soccer team to its first NCAA National Championship in 2015. She scored the game-winning goal in the final against Duke.

She was selected second overall in the 2016 National Women’s Soccer League Draft by New Jersey-based club Sky Blue FC and was named NWSL Rookie of the Year for the 2016 season.

Rodriguez is also a member of the Costa Rica women’s national team. She played all three games at the 2015 World Cup for Costa Rica, scoring the country’s first-ever goal at the tournamentto help secure a tie with Spain 1-1.
