Four local fire companies responded to, but were unable to extinguish, a fire located at a barn on State Correctional Institution at Rockview property. The barn was destroyed, and the companies scaled back their operations to let the fire burn itself back.
The fire was reported from numerous motorists and others who could see the blaze from up to a mile away. Motorists on Benner Pike and I-99 could see the fire from the roadway.
Alpha Bellefonte, Pleasant Gap, and Milesburg fire companies responded to the scene around 5:30 p.m. yesterday. At 7:30 p.m., firefighters on scene decided to pull back and allow the fire to run its course.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown, but is under investigation.
