PSU trustees could talk about Sandusky settlements

Penn state’s board of trustees began two days of meeting Thursday morning and once again, it’s a busy agenda for the trustees. 

One item not on the agenda at this point is the approval of financial settlements for Jerry Sandusky victims who have filed separate complaints against the university.   6 News has learned it could come up for discussion.

The trustees met in committees for most of Thursday. 

Penn state has been negotiating with them and the Sandusky victim’s attorneys for months and the trustees may soon be near deciding to settle many of those cases

The Sandusky settlement talks remain behind closed doors and the trustees committee of legal and compliance has provided limited updates. 

The university has indicated they want to go the settlement route to avoid further publicity that more court hearings could bring. The original goal was to have the settlements done by the end of last year, but the talks with the nearly 30 people filing suit-related to Sandusky incidents have continued.

A university spokesman told 6 News Thursday he wasn’t aware of any settlement issues for this trustee meeting.

6 News reporter Gary Sinderson learned it may come up in the committee meeting and the full board could be voting on settlements at their meeting Friday.
