The Penn State men’s basketball team has had its share of ups and downs over the past several years.
Last night, in their first exhibition game of the season, played in front of 5,961 fans at the Bryce Jordan Center, pre-season Big Ten All-Conference selection Geary Claxton injured his right hand nine minutes into the game. X-rays later confirmed a broken bone in the junior forward’s hand. Claxton is expected to be out at least two weeks.
The Lions went on to win the game against Edinboro, 71-53.
Sophomore Jamelle Cornley, the 2006 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, led the team with 10 points in 18 minutes. Junior Mike Walker contributed 9 points, and sophomore Danny Morrissey put 8 points on the board.
Freshman David “D.J.” Jackson led Penn State’s rebounds with eight, and also contributed four points to the total.
Penn State’s next exhibition game is Monday, Nov. 6 vs. Shippensburg. The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Bryce Jordan Center.
The Lady Lions basketball team begins its home season on Nov. 12 against Syracuse.
