University Park, Pa. — A somber mood blankets Happy Valley.
One day after the Freeh Report found, not only did Jerry Sandusky’s sexual abuse of children happen on Paterno’s watch, it happened under his nose.
The Paterno family maintains that simply cannot be true, but legions of even the most loyal Penn State faithful have mixed emotions.
The statue of the legendary coach that sits outside Beaver Stadium saw a steady stream of visitors some saying they want to get photos before it comes down.
Simon Brendenberg made the drive from Canada and said the statue needs to go.
“I’m a father I got two boys. It should happen. No one should be able to get away with that. Anybody involved should be held accountable”, said Simon Bredenberg.
“It’s gonna be a difficult decision but I think it’s a part of history and should stay”, said Jerry Clulan of Lancaster
Many are still shocked and saddened about the Freeh Report and questions persist.
One heard repeatedly is about the Sandusky investigation and Governor Tom Corbett’s role.
“Governor was Attorney General while this was going on could have put a stop to this long time ago, to all come down on Joe’s shoulders in unfair”, said George Reese of Carlisle.
University administrators haven’t issued any statements on the fate of the Paterno Statue.
