Through subzero temperatures on Wednesday night, fire companies from around Centre County and Mifflin County battled a blaze that destroyed a Potter Township home.
Centre Hall Fire Company, which commanded the response, said in a Facebook post that the home at 147 Mountain Spring Lane, off Decker Valley Road, was a total loss, but that the family and their dog were safe.
At 6:52 p.m., Centre Hall, Gregg Township and Boalsburg fire companies were dispatched to the site for a fully-involved dwelling fire that was spreading to nearby trees. The tree fires were contained. Alpha, Millheim, Pleasant Gap and Mifflin County fire companies also responded.
Neighbors, Centre Hall Fire Company Auxiliary and Brothers Pizza brought food, coffee and water to firefighters throughout the night as they battled the fire and cleaned up for hours afterward in the brutal cold.
The home was located near Seven Mountain Wine Cellars, which is collecting donations for the family. Anyone who would like to donate should contact tracy@sevenmountainswinecellars.com to make arrangements.
