Penns Valley Area School District schools are closed on Tuesday while law enforcement investigates a “non-specific threat.”
The threat was written on a wall at the high school in Spring Mills, Superintendent Brian Griffith wrote in a message to families on Tuesday morning. State police were notified when district officials became aware of the threat and advised the building be evacuated, so classes were canceled for all schools for the day.
“We plan to reopen tomorrow with additional staff and police presence on site as we work diligently to identify the individual responsible for this threat,” Griffith wrote. “Thank you for your support and understanding during this time.”
The high school was “inaccessible until is cleared by the state police team,” according to a message on the district website. Twelve-month staff assigned to the high school were directed to report to the Penns Valley Elementary and Intermediate School, while nine- and 10-month staff were told not to report for the day.
