A State College man was arrested on Sunday after he broke into a residence, took a shower and stole cupcakes, according to borough police.
Residents of a townhouse on the 600 block of Southgate Drive returned home at about 9:30 p.m. and heard the shower running in the upstairs bathroom, telling police they were certain they had locked the door before leaving, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
State College officers arrived and found Israal D. Al-Sulaimani, 21, in the bathroom wearing only underwear and appearing to have just finished showering, police wrote. Al-Sulaimani did not reside in or have permission to be in the townhouse, according to the affidavit.
Al-Sulaimani, who an officer said he recognized from a previous arrest, told police he used an extension ladder to gain entry to the residence through a second-story window, according to the affidavit. The window led into a bedroom adjacent to the bathroom where Al-Sulaimani was found with most of his clothes and other belongings on the floor.
The residents later confirmed that cupcakes had been taken from the kitchen, and police observed the empty packaging on the bathroom floor.
Al-Sulaimani, who the affidavit describes as homeless, was charged with felony counts of burglary and criminal trespass and a misdemeanor count of theft.
He was arraigned Monday morning by District Judge Casey McClain, who denied bail, writing that Al-Sulaimani was currently on bail in another case, a flight risk and a danger to the community. Al-Sulaimani is detained at the Centre County Correctional Facility.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
