The Penn State women’s lacrosse team has earned the No. 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament and will host the first and second rounds this weekend.
The Nittany Lions (15-3) received a first round bye and will play the winner of Friday’s first round game between James Madison (13-6) and Louisville (11-7) in Sunday’s second round at Penn State Lacrosse Field.
Penn State defeated James Madison, 12-9, in March but has never faced Louisville. Game times will be announced this week.
This will be the 23rd NCAA Tournament appearance and sixth in row for the Nittany Lions.
‘We are so excited, the team has worked so hard all year long and it’s just a great reward for them and how hard they played and the big wins they’ve had. I’m just really excited for the players,’ said head coach Missy Doherty in a release.
It’s also the 10th time the program has hosted a round of the tournament and first time since 2013 that the Lions have hosted the first and second round.
Penn State hosted Penn in a quarterfinal matchup last year, with the Nittany Lions coming away with a 12-11 win.
The Nittany Lions are coming off a hard-fought 12-11 loss to Northwestern in the Big Ten semifinals on Friday.
