Penn State Sets Events for King Commemoration; Social-Justice Forum, Guest Speaker Expected

Penn State has organized events across several days this week for the university’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration.

Monday will mark the Day of Service from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with an emphasis on volunteerism in the community. Details are available via www.volunteer.psu.edu.

Later, a performance by Barry Scott, ‘Ain’t Got Long to Stay,’ will be hosted in Eisenhower Auditorium at 7 p.m. Tickets are available via the Eisenhower, HUB and Penn State Downtown Theatre Center outlets.

Tuesday’s events include a community showcase in the HUB Auditorium at 6 p.m., a peace march outside the HUB Auditorium at 7 p.m., and a social-justice forum in the Waring Commons West Study Lounge at 8 p.m.

On Wednesday, social activist and investigative journalist Jeff Johnson will speak at 7 p.m. in Schwab Auditorium. Tickets are available via the Eisenhower, HUB and Penn State Downtown Theatre Center outlets.

Finally, on Thursday, a special event — the Globalization of Democracy in the 21st Century: A Conversation about the Arab Spring Revolution and the Quest for Democratic Ideals — is set for noon in the HUB Auditorium. An Alpha Phi Alpha oratorial competition will be held the same day at 7:30 p.m. in room 100 of the Life Sciences Building.
