A portion of ticket revenue from the Penn State-Indiana football game next month will help support the Penn State Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, THON officials announced Friday.
That game will be held Nov. 20 at FedEx Field, the Landover, Md., home of the Washington Redskins. The Redskins have agreed to donate five percent of ticket-sales revenue to THON, with a maximum possible contribution of $150,000, according to a THON news release.
‘This is the first time in THON history that a portion of Penn State football ticket sales will benefit the dance marathon,’ the release reads.
It also notes that the Washington, D.C., area is home to one of the largest Penn State alumni groups in the country.
Tickets for the Nov. 20 game go on sale Friday. Student tickets will cost $95 apiece, according to the news release, and bus transportation for students traveling from University Park to Landover will be available.
In other THON news, Friday marks the start of fundraising for the 2011 dance marathon. The marathon itself will be held from Feb. 18 to Feb. 20 in the Bryce Jordan Center, University Park. Beginning today, students organizations, independent dancers and other affiliated groups may raise money.
THON, billed as the largest student-run philanthropy in the world, has generated more than $69 million for The Four Diamonds Fund over the past 35 years. The fund supports pediatric-cancer research and patients. Last year alone, THON raised more than $7.83 million.
