The James Franklin recruiting train just keeps chugging along as the Nittany Lions added another talented prospect to the ranks of the 2014 recruiting class.

Amani Oruwariye, a three-star defensive back, verbally committed to Penn State on Thursday according to a report from ESPN’s Tom VanHaaren and multiple recruiting outlets. Oruwariye has been on Penn State fan’s radar for a few days now after some tweets that led many to believe it was only a matter of time before he verbally committed to Penn State.

Hailing from Gaither High School in Tampa, Oruwariye was once verbally committed to Vanderbilt. He de-committing once Franklin left the program. Oruwariye made a visit to Penn State this past weekend along with several other targets and players who have already committed.

This past season, Oruwariye racked up 47 tackles — including two for a loss — along with four picks and nine passes defended. He tallied 43 tackles in the secondary with three interceptions and three blocked punts in his junior season and finished his sophomore campaign with five picks and 31 tackles.

As of Friday, Penn State has only a single spot open in the 2014 recruiting class. The Nittany Lions can only carry 75 scholarship players into the 2014-15 season because of NCAA sanctions.

Even with limited scholarships, Penn State and Franklin have put together the 20th best recruiting class in the nation according to Rivals.com That ranking could and will likely improve as player evaluations continue.
