Just a couple quick notes to pass along from Wednesday’s practice in advance of Saturday’s game at Virginia.
Some good and bad on the injury front. Senior cornerback Stephon Morris was practicing full-go on Wednesday after leaving Saturday’s 24-14 loss to Ohio in the second half. Morris was not wearing any visible bandage on his ankle, so he looks ready for Saturday.
Bill Belton, on the other hand, did not practice, relegated to rehab in the weight room as he recovers from his sprained ankle. If Belton does not practice Thursday, there’s a good chance he won’t play Saturday. If he doesn’t participate in Friday’s walk-through, forget about it.
So, who fills in at running back?
Senior Derek Day, a former walk-on, received the first-team reps, and Zach Zwinak was in with the second team. I did not see Akeel Lynch get any work, but the media was only granted 15 minutes worth of practice, most of which was team stretching.
One final note: Quarterback Steven Bench was running the second-team offense. Paul Jones was wearing a white practice jersey instead of his usual red, which is designated for quarterbacks. Just something to monitor going forward.
