THON 2018 started off with a bang as the Berkey Creamery announced that it would have a new flavor — Gold Ribbon Ripple — coming this year in honor of THON’s 45th year anniversary.
“We were honored when THON came to us about doing a special flavor,” said Jim Brown, assistant manager of creamery operations. “We thought what better way to pay tribute to the children and their families, and this amazing event.”
The name is inspired by THON’s golden ribbon, which symbolizes the fight against childhood cancer. The ice cream is chocolate with a caramel gold ribbon and white chocolate chips. Part of every purchase will be donated to THON.
This is the first time the Creamery has added a new flavor since “Monkey Business” last spring. It will be available this weekend in the Bryce Jordan Center by Gate B.
Creamery Manager Thomas Davis said in a release that the intention is to make it a standard flavor which could be sold as early as Monday in the store and online.
‘For now, our focus is on THON Weekend,’ he said. ‘We encourage everyone to cheer on the children, their families and the dancers — it’s a fantastic event for a great cause.’
