Penn State Basketball: Tim Frazier Scores 30 Points in 70-58 Loss to Nebraska

Despite Tim Frazier’s career-high 30 points, Penn State couldn’t overcome cold shooting, losing to Nebraska, 70-58, Wednesday night. The loss marked the Nittany Lions’ third in four games and second straight after a 20-point victory over Purdue.

Tim Frazier was all of the Nittany Lion offense as Penn State struggled to find the bottom of the basket away from the Bryce Jordan Center once again, going three of 24 from behind the arc while shooting 33 percent from the field.

Frazier’s 30 points made him the only Nittany Lion in double figures. Jermaine Marshall fouled out after having scored only two points. This was particularly troublesome for Pat Chambers, who has seen Marshall become a reliable second scorer over the past few games.

Billy Oliver also struggled to generate offense, going two of 10 from the field after back-to-back games of consistent shooting.

Nebraska was led by Bo Spencer’s 19 points as part of a quartet of players who reached double figures for the Cornhuskers. Nebraska was able to stretch the lead to as much as 18, but the Nittany Lions brought it back within 11 several times during the second half.

In a last-ditch effort, Penn State was able to generate three consecutive stops on defense but failed to bring the game within single digits with eight minutes left to play.

Two back-to-back three-pointers by the Cornhuskers in the final five minutes of play put the game away, and Penn State could not recover.

The loss puts the Nittany Lions at (9-9, 1-4) for the season and marked the first victory for Nebraska in conference play. Penn State will travel back home to take on Minnesota on Sunday. Frazier’s 30 points gives him a Big Ten-leading eighth game with 20 or more points.
