Paterno Hall of Fame Induction Delayed Until Next Year

Paterno Hall of Fame Induction Delayed Until Next Year

Though Joe Paterno’s injury will not stop him from being present at Beaver Stadium for the Nittany Lions’ last game of the 2006 season, it will prevent him from making the trip to New York for his induction into the College Football Hall of Fame, scheduled for December 5. 



According to a Daily Collegian article, team doctor Wayne Sebastianelli ordered Paterno to limit his traveling for a minimum of six weeks as he recovers from surgery.  The induction has been rescheduled for Dec. 4, 2007. 



Missing the induction this year means that Paterno will not be enshrined along with Florida State coach Bobby Bowden as planned.  He will still be honored with Bowden, however, as co-recipients of the National Football Foundation’s Gold Medal, the organization’s highest honor, presented for their contributions to coaching and their impact on the lives of others.  The NFF Gold Medal has been awarded to seven U.S. presidents, four U.S. generals, three U.S. admirals, one U.S. Supreme Court justice, 25 CEO’s and chairmen, actor John Wayne, and former baseball player Jackie Robinson.
