A motorcycle ride this weekend in State College will benefit active U.S. military members, veterans and their immediate families enrolled in classes through Penn State World Campus.
The 2019 United States Veterans Scholarship Ride will begin at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, starting and ending at the American Legion Post 245, 1950 Pine Hall Road. The ride is organized by the Pennsylvania Chapter of the U.S. Veterans Motorcycle Club and will support the Penn State World Campus Veterans Education and Advancement Fund (VEAF).
A barbecue and entertainment at the American Legion will follow the ride. Organizers are asking for a for a donation of $15 per person to the VEAF.
The VEAF was created by Al Matyasovsky, retired program manager for the Penn State Office of the Physical Plant, and his wife, Sharon, in honor of their parents to support veterans and their families.
“The scholarship was created in honor of my father, a World War II veteran and my mother, who he said was the family leader,” Matyasovsky said in a news release. “My wife also wanted to honor her father who was a Korean War veteran and her mother for the same reasons. We were both greatly influenced by our parents and we hope they are looking down from heaven and are pleased.”
“The scholarship supports veterans as they pursue their educational aspirations,” added Renata Engel, vice provost for online education at Penn State. “And it is one more way that the community organizers have demonstrated their long-standing commitment to those who serve our nation.”
