Marriott Hotel to Open Near State College Regional Airport in 2026

A new extended-stay hotel is slated to open late next year near State College Regional Airport.

Construction got underway this month for a TownePlace Suites by Marriott near the intersection of Fox Hill and Bernel roads in Patton Township, developers of the project said on Thursday. The 89-room hotel, which is expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2026, is being developed by Nittany Valley Hotel Partners LP, a joint venture of Decibel Partners and Shaner Hotel Group.

Plans for a hotel on the site were approved by Patton Township’s Board of Supervisors in 2024, but the brand was not publicly disclosed until Thursday.

All rooms in the hotel will be suites featuring fully equipped kitchens, flexible workspaces and living areas.

“The TownePlace Suites will provide travelers with the modern comforts and conveniences that have made the extended-stay brand a favorite among business and leisure guests alike,” Shaner Hotel Group wrote in a news release. “Poised to be the newest and nicest extended-stay hotel in the market, it will set a new standard for accommodations in the region.”

Plans approved by last year show a right-in, right-out access from Fox Hill Road and a full movement access point on Bernel Road. The hotel is phase 2C of the 60.68-acre Nittany Valley Sports Centre Master Plan approved by the township in 2016. Previous development in the master plan area, which is in the township’s Planned Airport District, included the Centre and the Kingston Village townhomes.

The TownePlace Suites is part of a boom in new lodging around Centre County, where it is one of eight hotels in development.

Construction of a Home2Suites by Hilton began earlier this year near the intersection of Shiloh and East Trout roads in College Township. The status of another hotel nearby — Holiday Inn University Park on Dreibelbis Street — is uncertain as construction has taken place in fits and starts since a 2019 groundbreaking, though the exterior appears to be completed.

On Benner Pike near Bellefonte, a dual brand Avid Hotels/Candlewood Suites and a Tru by Hilton both appear to be nearing completion after starting construction last year.

In downtown State College, a Canopy by Hilton a is expected to open in 2028, and construction is scheduled to begin soon for the Nittany Residence Club condominium hotel with a planned 2027 opening.

Developers are also hoping to finally break ground this year for the long-awaited Bellefonte Waterfront Project, which will include a 93-room boutique hotel.
