Lady Lions Hold Off Marshall, 82-80

The Lady Lions (6-2) returned to the Bryce Jordan Center after three straight on the road, hosting Marshall (5-2), which made its first-ever trip to the BJC coming off a win over Morgan State on Wednesday. Teniya Page dropped 31 points in a narrow 82-80 Lady Lion win.

How It Happened

The game as a whole was a back-and-forth battle. Marshall had the lead after the first quarter with a team effort that helped produce 23 points. For stretches of the quarter, the Lady Lions struggled to find their range and trailed 23-17 at the first intermission.

Starting the quarter on a 9-0 run, Penn State took the lead for the first time in the game. Marshall found its groove again over the course of the rest of the quarter and went into halftime with a 37-35 lead. Teniya Page led all scorers with 12 points.

Page continued to lead the Lady Lions as the game progressed into the second half. By quarter’s end, she had already dropped four three-pointers and Penn State entered the final quarter with a 59-58 lead.

The tight battle continued into the closing stages of the game. With just more than two minutes left in the fourth quarter, the game was tied 72-72. Marshall took a one-point lead with under a minute left after draining a three, but Page answered with a bucket to give Penn State a lead it wouldn’t give back. Crucial stops from the Lady Lions and made free throws iced out an 82-80 victory.

Another huge effort from Page helped seal another tight win for the Lady Lions. She dropped 31 on the night and is continually rising among the nation’s top scorers with these huge-scoring games.

Penn State is heading up to Worcester, Mass., for a clash with the Holy Cross Crusaders on Wednesday. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. inside the Hart Center.
