Jeanne Hall, Honored Penn State Faculty Member, Dies at 53

Jeanne Lynn Hall, a celebrated and respected faculty member in the Penn State College of Communications, died unexpectedly Dec. 23, according to a published obituary. She was 53.

The obituary appeared Friday in the Centre Daily Times, at Legacy.com and on the Koch Funeral Home website. It indicates that Hall died at Mount Nittany Medical Center.

Hall, of the State College area, was an associate professor in the college, where she taught film theory, history and criticism. She arrived at Penn State in 1992, according to the university. Earlier, she taught at the Ohio University School of Film and edited a quarterly film journal, Wide Angle, a Penn State biography page shows.

At Penn State, Hall received a number of distinctions, including the College of Communications Alumni Association’s Excellence in Teaching Award.

According to her obituary, Hall held degrees from the University of Michigan and the University of Wisconsin. In addition to her parents, Clark and Joyce Hall, of West Bloomfield, Mich., she is survived by two sisters, Kathleen Gariepy and Cheryl Lindsay; three brothers, Mark Hall, Thomas Hall and James Hall; Jean Stobart Hall; and her former husband, Ron Bettig, the obituary notes. Bettig also is a faculty member in the Penn State College of Communications.

Memorial arrangements, as of Friday, had yet to be announced. Condolences may be shared online via the website of the Koch Funeral Home in State College.
