Recognized locally as the birthplace of Memorial Day, Boalsburg, for many Centre Countians, marks the natural and historic place to honor the fallen.

Outside Harris Township, the State College area will host a variety of other holiday events Monday. Here’s a look at several of them:
- Memorial Day Services at Centre County Memorial Park, 1032 Benner Pike. This gathering, to begin at 11 a.m., will include the Nittany Knights, Chiz Rider, Lt. Col. Robert Kennedy, District Judge Jonathan Grine, Evelyn Wald-Tides and Scottish pipe music.
- Happy Volley Club Championships and Camp. The multi-day youth volleyball event, on the University Park campus, concludes Monday with play-offs. All the events are open to the public. Earlier news coverage is posted hereavailable here.
- Black Moshannon State Park. The park will host several special events Monday, including a session on Pennsylvania spiders at 11 a.m., one on ‘bog treasures’ at 1 p.m., one about one-room schoolhouses at 3 p.m., and a final one on white-tail deer at 5 p.m. Additional details are posted in the StateCollege.com community calendar.
