Another round of heavy rain is sweeping across the region, bringing the potential for flooding in some areas.
Wednesday morning, The National Weather Service issued an Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for State College and all of Centre County.
That means small streams in our area may flood. The Urban and Small Stream Advisory will remain in effect until 3:15 p.m. Wednesday.
AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Paul Walker says heavy rain fell overnight and more is on the way. “So far here we’ve had six-tenths of an inch at AccuWeather headquarters as of 9:30 Wednesday morning.”
Showers and Thunderstorms are possible for much of the day. Overall, Walker says as much as an inch of rain will fall across the State College area.
Many waterways are already running high because of recent heavy rains. Up to three inches of rain fell across the region on Friday, triggering some minor flash flooding in low-lying areas along Spring Creek in College Township.
According to the National Weather Service most flood-related deaths happen in cars. You should never try to drive through areas where water covers the road because flood waters are usually deeper than they appear. The weather service says one foot of flowing water is powerful enough to sweep vehicles away.
