It’s time to empty out your sheds and garages and get rid of that toxic brew of “stuff” that’s been piling up. The Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority’s household hazardous waste collection event began Friday at 10 a.m. It continues Saturday, April 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Residents are allowed to discard insecticides, weed killers, pool chemicals, cleaners, poisons, corrosives, flammables, oil based paints, CFL bulbs and most other hazardous chemicals. This means household goods only.
You should not bring latex paint, used motor oil, antifreeze, medications or alkaline batteries.
Though lines have been a problem in the past, education coordinator Amy Schirf says they’ve worked out the kinks and lines have been moving quickly.
The Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority is located at 253 Transfer Road. That’s off Route 26, about one mile east of the Nittany Mall.
