James Franklin’s No. 9 ranked 2016 recruiting class lost its third member today, as four-star defensive tackle Karamo Dioubate (Prep Charter/Philadelphia, PA) announced that he’ll be decommitting from Penn State and will reopen his recruitment.
Dioubate, who committed to Penn State in August, took an official visit to Auburn back in December, making the Tigers frontrunners for the talented pass rusher’s services. Prior to his commitment, Dioubate announced that his planned visits to Auburn and Alabama would likely not happen, but his mind has seemingly changed after the visit to Auburn — one he seemed to enjoy.
Dioubate, the No. 18 defensive tackle in the country, joins four-star defensive back Lavert Hill and three-star defensive tackle Christian Colon as players who reopened their respective recruitments after committing to Penn State. Michigan State and Alabama are also considered frontrunners for Dioubate along with Auburn.
After losing two four-star recruits in the span of about two months, Franklin can expect his program’s national Class of 2016 ranking to take a hit. Remember, these are high school aged kids making one of the biggest decisions of their lives, so it’s important to respect their choice. However, with depth remaining a prevalent issue for the Nittany Lions, Dioubate’s decommitment will surely leave the coaching staff scrambling to try and shore up the team’s depth up front, especially after the departures of Anthony Zettel, Austin Johnson, and Carl Nassib.
