A former official with the CIA and the FBI will speak on global security issues Friday at Penn State University Park, the university announced.

Philip Mudd is a former deputy director for the FBI’s National Security Branch and for the CIA’s Counterterrorist Center. He will present a talk — ‘Watching the Threat: Views from a Life in the CIA and FBI’ — starting at 4 p.m. in the Lewis Katz Building, home of the Penn State Dickinson School of Law.

The event, co-sponsored by the university’s School of International Affairs, Social Science Research Institute and Strategic and Global Security Program, will be free and open to the public. It’s part of the speaker series for the International Center for the Study of Terrorism.

Mudd left the government earlier this year and is now a senior research fellow at the New America Foundation, where he studies issues of counterterrorism, intelligence and homeland security, Penn State reported.
