From Monday through Saturday, Aug. 5-10, children can choose three free outfits and a pair of shoes. The child must be present. The outfits and shoes are free for anyone — you don’t have to show need or live in Centre County. There are clothes ranging in size from pre-kindergarten to grade 12. The Faith Church blessed the clothing for the program.
Each day last year, three or four volunteers helped with the giving of the clothing. Janet Hall told of her experience last year.
“Everyone was very grateful, but one woman had tears in her eyes as she thanked us. She said the clothes from FaithCentre would be the only ones her kids would get to start school,” said Hall. “I am blessed by the remarks I’ve heard.”
Joan LeBlanc talked of her time volunteering also and had similar stories to relate about parents with two or three children concerned with getting them shoes, clothing, etc., for the new school year.
“Everyone was just so happy and grateful to receive the outfits,” said LeBlanc.
Both of the volunteers mentioned they have been going to FaithCentre for 10 to 12 years to volunteer.
Another feature at FaithCentre that will facilitate the back-to-school event is the addition of four dressing rooms. Students can try on their clothing in privacy and make their selections.
Another program in effect all year is the “A” program. For each “A” on a report card, the student can receive a $10 voucher for clothing. And yes, four “As” will get a $40 voucher.
Donna Spicer, manager, said, “We are hoping for a really good turnout for this event. We’ve planned it to be before the Grange Fair for everyone’s convenience.”
