The Centre County Coroner’s Office on Friday released the identity of a woman who died in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday morning in State College.
Raina A. Kassoway, 48, of Boalsburg, was killed in the rollover crash near the intersection of South Allen Street and Westerly Parkway.
Kassoway died of blunt force trauma to the head and chest, Chief Deputy Coroner John Kubalak wrote in a release. The manner of death was ruled accidental.
Video footage showed Kassoway driving northbound on South Allen Street at a high rate of speed and entering the Westerly Parkway intersection using the westbound turn lane at 11:13 a.m., according to an earlier release from borough police.
She continued north on Allen Street before going off the left side of the road, narrowly missing a pedestrian and an oncoming vehicle. After continuing across a lawn, Kassoway’s vehicle struck a cement retaining wall on Sunrise Terrace, went airborne and landed on its roof, police wrote.
Alpha Fire Company and Centre Life Link EMS arrived to extricate her from the vehicle and responders performed life-saving measures. She was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead after what Kubalak described as “extensive resuscitative efforts.”
Kassoway was the only occupant of the vehicle. No other injuries were reported.
State College police continue to investigate the crash. Anyone who may have information is asked to call (814) 234-7150, email police@statecollegepa.us or submit a tip through the department’s website.
