College Township is asking for the public’s input as it puts together a Pedestrian Facilities Master Plan that would fill connectivity gaps in the township’s sidewalk and multi-use path network.
Through Sept. 30, a link on the township website will lead visitors to an integrated web-mapping application to provide recommendations for improvement. A public input mapping tool will allow residents to provide ideas for the future.
With those suggestion in mind, the township seeks to adopt the Final Pedestrian Master Plan by the end of 2021. In doing, College Township will look to build upon the 2018 Sidewalk Master Plan, the Centre Region Bike Plan and the ongoing Dale Summit Area Plan.
When completed, the plan will likely lead to updates in the township official map, showing local leaders plan to develop the highest priority connections at some point in the future.
The Pedestrian Facilities Plan will also consider changes to ordinances to ensure that as development occurs in the township, the pedestrian links would be established as needed. The plan would also include a fee-in-lieu of construction for developers who are unable to include suggested paths in plans because of infeasibility. This fee would be used by the township to ensure a walkable community.”
The township hopes to have a draft version of the plan ready to for viewing by fall for public review and comment.
