The 66th annual Centre Region Halloween Costume Parade is set to begin at 7 p.m. Sunday from the 100 block of North Burrowes Road, the State College Police Department announced.

Hosted by Centre Region Parks and Recreation and the State College Lions Club, the parade will begin its formation at 6:30 p.m. It’ll step off at 7 p.m., traveling south on Burrowes to West College Avenue, east on College to South Allen Street, south on Allen to Foster Avenue, and west on Foster to Memorial Field.

For about an hour — starting at 6:30 p.m. — these streets will be closed: College Avenue between Pugh Street and Burrowes Road; South Allen Street between College and Foster avenues; Foster Avenue from South Allen Street to Memorial Field.

A detour will reroute westbound drivers on East College Avenue, police said. Those drivers will be directed south onto Pugh Street.

In addition, traffic on Beaver Avenue will be interrupted periodically during the parade procession, according to a news release.

The parade itself is open to costumed characters of all ages. Participants are asked to fit into one of these categories: Halloween Tiny Tots (ages 2 and younger); Cartoon Characters; Witches and Monsters; Fairy-Tale Characters; Ghosts and Goblins; TV and Movie Characters; Animals on Parade; Halloween Twosomes; Groups (of three people or more); and Open Class.

Costume judging, provided by Delta Sigma Phi fraternity, will take place at Memorial Field as the parade concludes. Treats will be provided by the Lions Club.
