State College Borough will host the semi-annual Campus and Community Sustainability Expo from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Borough Building, 243 S. Allen St.

The event is a poster-style exposition organized by the Penn State Sustainability Institute’s Sustainable Communities Collaborative, which connects faculty, students and staff with local communities to address sustainability challenges through an engaged, collaborative effort.

For example, students in agricultural engineering explored storm water mitigation, human resource management students investigated equity issues in the workplace, and business students explored polyethylene terephthalate (PET) recycling.

Projects provide students with real-world experiences and empower community partners to make better decisions and to take strategic actions toward a sustainable future.

Opening remarks at the expo will be delivered by State College Borough Manager Tom Fountaine; Michael Walsh, Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources deputy secretary for administration; and Alan Rieck, Penn State assistant vice president and assistant dean of undergraduate education .

Penn State students, faculty and staff will be available to answer questions at the expo, which is free and open to the public.
