Borough Council’s Regular Meeting to Discuss Projects

Updates on a public works project, regional issues and amendments to two borough ordinances will be discussed at the State College Borough Council’s regular Monday night meeting. 

At 7:30 p.m. in the Municipal Building 234 S. Allen St., the Borough Council will meet for its regularly-scheduled meeting, all of which are open to the public.

The public works project to be discussed during the meeting is the Atherton Street Corridor Project, in which council could decide to authorize the second phrase of the project. 

At the last council meeting, representatives from Stahl Shaeffer Engineering gave an update on the project, in which they proposed benefits to pedestrians and drivers using the 100 blocks of North and South Atherton Street.

Updates include more lighting, brick sidewalk accents, better visibility and improved crosswalks at the College Avenue and Beaver Avenue intersections.

Construction on the various elements would being in the summer of 2013, according to the council. 

In the full agenda for Monday night’s meeting, it is suggested that council approve the second phase. Environmental Coordinator for the project, Alan Sam, will be on hand to answer all of council’s questions. 

Also on deck to discussion at the meeting: 

• Amending two ordinances: vehicle peddler eating and drinking license and handbill;

• Minimum Municipal obligation for the Borough’s pension plans in 2013;

• Reimbursement resolution;

• Park maintenance facility;

• Development of Regional Impact Process.
