A Bellefonte man died after a head-on crash Wednesday afternoon on Route 144 in Potter Township near the intersection with Route 322.
State police said it happened at about noon, when 77-year old Cubby Bair was traveling northbound at the 100 block of Route 144 and drifted into the southbound lane for unknown reasons. Bair’s vehicle collided head-on with a pickup truck driven by Gary Stidfole, 65, of Lewistown.
Bair was pronounced dead at the scene.
Stidfole was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center for injuries. His condition and the extent of his injuries were not available.
Route 144 was closed between Chestnut Street and Route 45 for about three hours. Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
Less than one month ago, Bair’s sister, Marjorie Kay Goodman, was killed in a head-on crash nearby on Route 322 in Potter Township. On Oct. 24, Goodman, 68, of Lewistown was traveling eastbound at the 3100 block of General Potter Highway, between Krise Valley Road and Route 144, when she crossed into the westbound lane in an attempt to pass a tractor trailer. Another tractor trailer traveling westbound at about 35 miles per hour collided head-on with her pickup truck.
