Several downtown roads will be closed on Saturday afternoon as the community participates in an Autism Awareness 5K run and 3K walk.
Autism Awareness Month, held every April, intends to increase awareness of a condition that affects about 1 in every 88 children today.
The event, hosted by the Autism Speaks Foundation, begins at noon on April 13. A section of S. Allen St. will be closed — from the entrance to Schlow Library to Foster Ave. — until 4 p.m. Other streets will also be closed to traffic during the event.
The 5K Run will use the following route:
· Start at 200 South Allen Street
· South on South Allen Street to Old Boalsburg Road
· South on Old Boalsburg Road to Ellen Avenue
· East on Ellen Avenue to William Street
· South on William Street to Bradley Avenue
· East on Bradley Avenue to South Garner Street
· North on South Garner Street to William Street
· East on William Street and turn around at cul de sac.
