Amendola Requests More Details of Alleged Sandusky Offenses

UPDATED @ 2:14 p.m. March 2: In a Friday filing, Jerry Sandusky’s lead attorney has asked for more details about the sexual assaults allegedly committed by his client.

The attorney, Joseph Amendola, is seeking the precise times, dates and days of the week when the alleged offenses happened, according to his court filing. He also wants to know the specific locations where the activity is reported to have happened, along with “the identity of the individuals who were present at the location or in close proximity thereto … when the alleged illegal activity occurred … .”

In addition, Amendola wrote, he wants to know of any special events — such as football games — that may have happened on the days when the alleged violations took place.

The full text of his request, an application for a more-specific Bill of Particulars, is available via the Centre County website. It was filed with Judge John M. Cleland, who will decide whether state prosecutors must comply with the request in the pre-trial discovery phase.

Jerry Sandusky’s legal team doesn’t think new information released this week will change its defense plan, lead Sandusky attorney Joseph Amendola said Friday.

On Thursday, state prosecutors answered a defense request for a Bill of Particulars, outlining some key details of sexual-abuse allegations against Sandusky.

Those details, shared as part of the pre-trial discovery process, suggest that Sandusky abused eight of his 10 alleged victims on Penn State property.

Prosecutors also have identified the ages at which they believe the alleged victims suffered abuse by Sandusky, a former university football coach. More information about the prosecution-supplied details is available via this earlier news report.

Amendola, in a prepared statement Friday, said the Sandusky defense team is now evaluating the material supplied by the prosecution.

“We may file a motion in the near-future for a more-specific response from the commonwealth to our a request for a Bill of Particulars,” Amendola said in the statement, shared via e-mail. “We don’t believe any of the information in the commonwealth’s response will alter our defense.

“We are continuing with the preparation of Jerry’s defense with the goal of obtaining an acquittal on all the charges filed against him,” Amendola went on.

Sandusky, accused of a prolonged pattern of child sexual abuse, is charged with 52 criminal counts. Jury selection in the anticipated trial is set for May 14.
