Amendola: Pre-Trial Conference for Sandusky Expected to Be Rescheduled

UPDATED @ 6:45 p.m. March 19: The pre-trial conference in the Jerry Sandusky criminal case is expected to be rescheduled, Sandusky attorney Joseph Amendola wrote in an e-mail message Monday evening.

Earlier in the day, Centre County court officials noted that a March 22 pre-trial conference in the matter had been canceled.

Amendola, in a subsequent e-mail message to reporters, explained the situation this way:

“The pretrial conference technically scheduled for March 22nd was canceled some time ago by the Court. The 22nd is a pretrial conference day for everyone with a pending criminal case in Centre County. It is my understanding that Jerry’s case, due to its complexity and national media coverage, will have a separate pretrial conference scheduled sometime after the 22nd.”

A pre-trial conference that had been scheduled for Thursday in the Jerry Sandusky sexual abuse case has been canceled, Centre County court officials announced in a written statement Monday.

Messages left Monday evening for Sandusky attorney Joseph Amendola and the state Office of the Attorney General, which is prosecuting the case, were not immediately answered.

StateCollege.com will post more information as it becomes available. Jury selection for the anticipated Sandusky trial has been scheduled for May 14.

Sandusky, a former Penn State assistant football coach, has been charged with 52 criminal counts in the child sexual abuse case. He has maintained that he is innocent.
