AccuWeather.com: Storm Delivered Heavy Rain, No Apparent Tornadoes in Centre Co.

While conditions were good for a tornado late Wednesday in Centre County, there’s no evidence that any twisters actually formed in the area, AccuWeather.com meteorologist Justin Povick said Thursday.

‘There was a tornado warning issued on the storm for eastern Centre County,’ Povick told StateCollege.com. ‘But there haven’t been any tornadoes confirmed in connection with that.’

A tornado watch was in effect late Wednesday for much of central Pennsylvania. The watch expired at 10 p.m., but for a brief period between 6:30 and 7:15 p.m., the National Weather Service elevated it to a tornado warning.

Weather data at that point suggested that a funnel cloud could be imminent in the area of southeastern Centre County.

Even though it appears that no tornadoes ultimately materialized, Povick said, the area of Spring Mills, Centre Hall and Millheim did see some wind damage. Gusty winds, heavy rains and lightning swept across Centre County, as well.

Total rainfall in the State College area was in the one-to-1.5-inch range for Wednesday and early Thursday, according to AccuWeather.com. That brings the local rainfall tally for April to nearly five inches.

The county normally sees about 3.25 inches of rain in April, Povick said.

Conditions are expected to be more clear over the weekend, the AccuWeather.com forecast shows. Saturday is expected to be sunny with a high of 70 degrees; Sunday, partly sunny with a high again of 70.
