KJ Hamler became Penn State’s third 2017 receiver commit Friday afternoon, picking the Nittany Lions over the likes of Michigan State, Oregon, and many others.

Standing 5-foot-9, the four-star Hamler projects as an electric slot receiver at the next level. He attended Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Prep, the alma mater of Rob Bolden and Allen Robinson, outside of Detroit before transferring to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. prior to his senior season.

Hamler went down with a torn ACL in a preseason game against Carol City, but remained high on James Franklin and position coach Josh Gattis’ board throughout the recruiting process. He took his official visit to University Park for the Temple game weekend in mid-September.

Hamler, who participated in Nike’s The Opening this summer, joins three-star verbals Mac Hippenhammer and Cameron Sullivan-Brown as Gattis’ next crop of talented receivers. Like most elite athletes in high school, Hamler has experience playing both ways, also spending time at cornerback. He’s considered the 312th-best prospect in America and the 44th-overall receiver from the Class of 2017, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Hamler’s pledge gives the Nittany Lions 16 commits this cycle. You can check out his Hudl highlight reel right here.
