Centre County dog licenses for 2026 will be available for purchase online or in person starting Dec. 1, county Treasurer Colleen Kennedy said on Monday.

Licenses can be purchased by visiting centrecountypa.gov/treasurer or at the following locations:

  • Centre County Treasurer’s Office, Willowbank Building, 420 Holmes Street, Bellefonte
  • The Pet Pub, 111 W. Main St., Boalsburg
  • Hosterman & Stover Hardware, 190 W. Main St., Millheim
  • Katey’s Corner, 124 E. Presqueisle St., Philipsburg
  • Adrian’s Dog House, 141 E. College Ave., Pleasant Gap
  • Port Matilda Borough Building, 400 S. High St., Port Matilda
  • Patton Township Building, 100 Patton Plaza, State College
  • The Pet Pub, 507 Benner Pike, State College
  • Wiscoy For Animals, 424 W. Aaron Dr., State College

State law requires that all dogs must be licensed at the point of adoption or purchase, or by three months old if no transfer of ownership has taken place, in the county where they are maintained, with new tags displayed beginning Jan. 1 each year.

The cost for a 2026 license is $10.80, or a reduced fee of $8.80 for individuals 65 and older and people with qualifying disability status. Lifetime licenses — $52.80 or $36.80 for seniors and persons with disabilities — are only available from the county treasurer’s office for dogs that have either a microchip or tattoo, with confirmation from a veterinarian or kennel.

Kennedy reminded residents that “the cost of a license is far less than the penalty for being caught without one.”

Owners who fail to license their dogs can face fines of up to $500, plus court costs, for each unlicensed animal.

Licenses help to return lost dogs to their owners and keep them out of shelter. The fees for annual licenses support the Pennsylvania Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement’s services to protect dogs and the public.
