17 New COVID-19 Cases Reported in Centre County

The Pennsylvania Department of Health on Monday reported 17 new COVID-19 cases in Centre County, increasing its total to 486 since the first was reported on March 20.

The county also had 95 new negative test results. A total of 13,778 patients in Centre County have tested negative for the virus. 

Among the new positives, 16 were in the 16801 (State College) and 16802 (University Park) zip codes. 

In the past two weeks the county has added 93 new cases of the virus.

Statewide, the health department reported 521 new positives, increasing Pennsylvania’s total to 134,025.

There were 8,296 new negative test results statewide. A total of 1,524,195 patients in Pennsylvania have tested negative for the virus.

Over the past seven days, 159,917 COVID-19 tests have been administered in Pennsylvania with 4,456 positive cases.

An estimated 82% of COVID-19 patients in the state — about 109,901 — have recovered, according to a DOH calculation.

The health department reported no new COVID-19 deaths, keeping the state’s total at 7,673. DOH has reported 11 total COVID-19 deaths for Centre County, the most recent on Aug. 14. The coroner’s office has confirmed only seven, ranging in age from 74 to 96.

Most COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths have been among patients 65 and older, according to DOH.

Of the patients who have tested positive the age breakdown is as follows:

  • 1% are ages 0-4;
  • Nearly 2% are ages 5-12;
  • Nearly 4% are ages 13-18;
  • Nearly 10% are ages 19-24; 
  • Nearly 38% are ages 25-49; 
  • Nearly 23% are ages 50-64; and
  • Approximately 23% are ages 65 or older.

Among the state’s total cases, 130,211 are confirmed and 3,814 are probable. In Centre County, 440 are confirmed and 46 are probable. All 17 cases reported on Monday were confirmed.

Cases in Centre County nursing and personal care homes remained unchanged with 35 among residents and 22 among staff at eight facilities.

Among Centre County’s bordering counties, Blair now has 461 [+5] total cases, Union has 377 [+6], Huntingdon has 364, Clearfield has 227, Mifflin has 161 [+1] and Clinton has 136 [+1].
