STATE COLLEGE — In 2001, the children at Our Lady of Victory School in State College wanted to honor their classmate, Jared, who was diagnosed with an incurable brainstem tumor. They decided to fill a plastic storage box filled with items to lift his spirits while in the hospital. These boxes contained small gifts, toys, games and other fun activities. Jared Boxes provide a special diversion for young patients in emergency rooms, patient rooms, surgical centers, and clinics as they receive chemotherapy and other medical treatments. Since, the Jared Box Project has extended across the country and to date, more than 500,000 Jared Boxes have been delivered across the United States.
