Centre County Reports 1 New COVID-19 Death, 24 Cases

Centre County reported one new COVID-19 death and added 24 cases of the virus on Tuesday, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The county now has had a total of 231 deaths attributed to COVID-19, including three in August. The case total stands at 17,662 (16,035 confirmed and 1,627 probable).

Pennsylvania added 3,249 new positives to bring the statewide total to 1,300,368. With 21 new deaths, the commonwealth’s total is now 28,235.

Hospitalizations

According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard, 17 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Centre County, two fewer than on Monday. Three are in intensive care and two on ventilators.

Pennsylvania has 1,850 COVID-19 inpatients, an increase of 50 since Monday, with 474 in intensive care [+6] and 216 on ventilators [-2]. Hospitalizations are at their highest level since May 9.

An estimated 93% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation.

Transmission Level

Centre County remains at the highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to the latest county-level data update on Monday afternoon. The county had been at substantial, the second highest level, for three weeks until Friday.

Every county in Pennsylvania is now at the high level of transmission.

Transmission levels are based on positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people for the previous seven days. At the substantial and high levels, CDC guidance recommends all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings.

Vaccinations

As of Tuesday morning, 80,378 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated [+102 since Monday] and 6,531 are partially covered [-7]. According to the CDC, 59.6% of the county’s entire population and 66.4% of adult residents have received at least one dose.

Statewide, 65.7% of Pennsylvania adults are fully vaccinated and the commonwealth ranks fifth nationally for total doses administered.
