Centre County Adds 64 COVID-19 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 5,766 New Positives

Centre County reported 64 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday to increase its total to 22,800, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Among total cases 20,531 are confirmed and 2,269 are probable.

Pennsylvania added 5,766 positives, bringing the statewide total to 1,736,920.

The county also had 41 new negative test results to bring the total to 84,691. Statewide, there were 2,792 new negatives for a total of 5,906,526.

Deaths

DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents, keeping the total at 258.

With 113 new COVID-19 deaths identified by the Pennsylvania death registry, the statewide total is now 33,421.

Hospitalizations

Mount Nittany Medical Center is treating 41 COVID-19 inpatients, three fewer than on Monday, with five in intensive care [+1] and three on ventilators [-1]

The patients range in age from 27 to 95, according to Mount Nittany’s COVID-19 inpatient dashboard. Twelve are fully vaccinated and 29 are not vaccinated.

Pennsylvania has 3,876 COVID-19 inpatients, 142 more than on Monday, with 873 in intensive care [+37] and 498 on ventilators [+15], according to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard. The statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations are the most since Jan. 25.

An estimated 91% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation that considers a case as recovered if it has not been reported as a death and it is more than 30 days past the date of the first positive test or onset of symptoms.

Prison cases

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, Benner state prison has 39 active COVID-19 cases among inmates — 39 fewer than were listed on Monday and now the second highest total among state correctional facilities — and 34 among staff [+6], the highest among any SCI.

Rockview state prison has two active inmate cases [-1] and 11 among staff [+6].

Both facilities are in Benner Township.

At Benner, 1,564 inmates are fully vaccinated, 14 are partially vaccinated and 197 are not vaccinated. Among staff, 281 are fully vaccinated and 347 are not vaccinated.

Rockview has 1,678 inmates who are fully vaccinated and 60 who are not vaccinated. Among staff, 324 are fully vaccinated and 393 are not vaccinated.

Transmission level

All 67 counties in Pennsylvania are at the highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to the latest county-level data update.

Transmission levels are based on positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people for the previous seven days. At the substantial and high levels, CDC guidance recommends all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings.

Vaccinations

As of Tuesday morning, 87,020 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated [+456 since Monday] and 11,205 are partially covered [-326]. Third doses have been administered to 22,950 county residents [+298].

Among the county’s entire population, 68.8% have received at least one dose and 52.6% are fully vaccinated, according to the CDC. Among adult residents, 75.2% have received at least one dose and 58.5% are fully vaccinated.

Statewide, 69.2% of adults and 58.3% of the total population are fully vaccinated.

All adults are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot.
