Centre County reported 53 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday to bring its total to 14,492, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
Pennsylvania added 5,032 cases for a statewide total of 1,020,300.
The county also had 76 additional negative test results, increasing its total to 64,829. Across Pennsylvania, there were 10,667 new negatives for a total of 4,126,702.
Centre County’s total number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 remained at 213 for the 24th consecutive day.

Mount Nittany Medical Center is treating 29 COVID-19 inpatients as of Tuesday morning, five more than on Monday. The patients range in age from 47 to 90, according to a hospital spokesperson.
Since March 1, Mount Nittany has had more than 100 COVID admissions and an average daily census of 18 COVID positive inpatients. COVID-19 inpatient numbers are at their highest level in seven weeks and the hospital’s overall census is at its highest since before the pandemic started more than a year ago, Tiffany Cabibbo, executive vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer, said in a statement.
Cabibbo said that, if needed, Mount Nittany is prepared to operate under its surge capacity plan, which has been used several times during the pandemic and may include the rescheduling of non-essential surgeries and procedures.
“We hope that we do not reach that point again, but the rise in COVID-19 cases and subsequent rising hospitalizations has us very concerned,” she said.
A total of 43,394 people in Centre County are at least partially covered by the COVID-19 vaccine. The total includes 26,272 who are fully covered, either through the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine or both required doses of the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines, according to health department data.
“Because it will take many months to vaccinate everyone, we cannot stress enough how essential it is that we remain vigilant in the face of this very serious virus,” Cabibbo said. “We are not out of the woods yet, and we must work together to stay strong and continue to consistently practice safety measures including masking, frequent hand washing and social distancing.”
Statewide, hospitalizations continue to tick up, with 1,980 COVID-19 inpatients, including 392 in intensive care and 207 on ventilators as of Tuesday morning.
Centre County nursing and personal care homes added one new case among residents and one among employees. A total of 18 long-term care facilities in the county have had a combined 723 resident cases, 153 employee cases and 162 resident deaths.
An estimated 91% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, per a health department calculation.
Among Pennsylvania’s cases, 868,841 are confirmed and 151,459 are probable. In Centre County, 13,228 are confirmed and 1,264 are probable.
