Centre County Adds 20 COVID-19 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 2,389 New Positives

Centre County reported 20 new COVID-19 cases on Monday to increase its total to 17,638, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Among total cases, 16,018 are confirmed and 1,620 are probable.

Pennsylvania added 2,389 new positives to bring the statewide total to 1,297,119.

The county also reported 35 negative test results for a total of 75,324. Statewide, there were 5,549 new negatives for a total of 5,136,138.

Hospitalizations

According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard, 19 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Centre County, one more than on Sunday. Three are in intensive care [+1] and two on ventilators.

Pennsylvania has 1,800 COVID-19 inpatients, an increase of 32 since Sunday, with 468 in intensive care [-8] and 218 on ventilators [-3]. Hospitalizations are at their highest level since May 10.

An estimated 93% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation.

Deaths

DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents on Monday, keeping its total at 230 for the 11th consecutive day.

With one new COVID-19 deaths statewide, Pennsylvania’s total is now 28,214.

Transmission Level

Centre County remains at the highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to the latest county-level data update on Sunday afternoon. The county had been at substantial, the second highest level, for three weeks until Friday.

Across Pennsylvania, 66 of 67 counties are at the high level, with only Snyder County at substantial.

Transmission levels are based on positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people for the previous seven days. At the substantial and high levels, CDC guidance recommends all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings.

Vaccinations

As of Monday morning, 80,276 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated [+34 since Sunday] and 6,538 are partially covered [+4]. According to the CDC, 59.5% of the county’s entire population and 66.4% of adult residents have received at least one dose.

Statewide, 65.7% of Pennsylvania adults are fully vaccinated and the commonwealth ranks fifth nationally for total doses administered.
