Centre County Adds 15 COVID-19 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 2,795 New Positives

Centre County reported 15 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday to bring its total to 17,455, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Pennsylvania added 2,795 positives to increase the statewide total to 1,272,350.

The county also reported 60 negative test results for a total of 74,793. Statewide, there were 7,315 new negatives for a total of 5,080,511.

Centre County remains at the substantial level for community transmission of COVID-19 — the second highest on the Centers for Disease Control scale — as of the CDC’s latest county-level data update on Monday afternoon. Neighboring Blair, Clinton, Clearfield and Huntingdon counties are at the highest level, while Mifflin and Union are also at substantial.

According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard, 21 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Centre County, four more than on Monday and the most since May 4. One is in intensive care [-1] and none are on ventilators.

Statewide COVID-19 hospitalization surpassed 1,500 for the first time since May 15. Pennsylvania has 1,534 COVID-19 inpatients, an increase of 36 since Monday, with 427 in intensive care [+17] and 195 on ventilators [-1].

DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents, keeping its total at 230.

With 22 new deaths statewide, Pennsylvania’s total is now 28,098.

An estimated 94% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation.

As of Tuesday morning, 79,773 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated and 6,358 are partially covered. According to the CDC, about 58% of the county’s entire population has received at least one dose.

Vaccination appointments for ages 12 and older are available through Centre Volunteers in Medicine, Mount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and providers listed at vaccines.gov.
