Centre County Adds 11 COVID-19 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 1,466 New Positives

Centre County recorded 11 new COVID-19 cases on Monday as Pennsylvania registered fewer than 1,500 new infections for the second consecutive day.

The county’s new positives bring its pandemic total to 35,677 (31,622 confirmed and 4,055 probable). Centre County’s rolling seven-day average for new cases is 24, up from 19 a week ago and eight a month ago.

Pennsylvania’s 1,466 new cases bring the statewide total to 2,823,133. The commonwealth’s seven-day average is 1,928, up from 1,525 a week ago and 621 a month ago.

Hospitalizations

Mount Nittany Medical Center has 12 COVID-19 inpatients for the fourth consecutive day, with one in intensive care [+1] and none ventilators. The number of COVID-19 inpatients remains at its highest level since early March.

COVID-19 hospitalizations throughout Pennsylvania increased for the third day in a row and sixth time in seven days. Statewide, 685 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Pennsylvania, 34 more than on Sunday, with 82 in intensive care [+2] and 33 on ventilators [-2]. COVID hospitalizations statewide are at their highest level in nearly seven weeks.

Deaths

DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents for the 22nd consecutive day, keeping the total at 348.

With one new COVID-19 deaths identified by the Pennsylvania death registry, the statewide total is 44,679.

Community Level

Centre County remains at the “low” community level for COVID-19 for the eighth consecutive week, according to the Centers for Disease Control’s latest update on Thursday.

Community levels measure new cases, new hospitalizations and local hospital capacity to determine mitigation guidelines. At the low level, there is no recommendation for indoor masking.

Statewide, 64 of 67 counties are at the low level. A cluster of three Northern Tier counties — Bradford, Sullivan and Susquehanna — are at the high level. At the medium level, the CDC recommends masks indoors in public for those at risk of severe illness. At the high level, universal indoor public masking is recommended.

Prison cases

Centre County’s two state prisons — Benner and Rockview — have no COVID-19 cases among inmates or staff, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections.

At Benner, 1,428 inmates are fully vaccinated, 27 are partially vaccinated and 217 are not vaccinated. Among staff, 305 are fully vaccinated and 324 are not vaccinated.

At Rockview, 1,682 inmates are fully vaccinated, two are partially vaccinated and 82 are not vaccinated. Among staff, 352 are fully vaccinated and 366 are not vaccinated.

Vaccinations

DOH has not updated vaccination numbers since Thursday. At last count, 95,407 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated and 14,214 are partially covered. First booster doses have been administered to 50,610 county residents and 4,467 have received a second booster.

Among the county’s entire population, 70.4% have received at least one dose, 59.9% are fully vaccinated and 51.9% are fully vaccinated with a booster, according to the CDC. Among adult residents, 75.7% have received at least one dose, 64% are fully vaccinated and 54.6% have received a booster.

Statewide, 77.9% of adults and 68.4% of the total population are fully vaccinated.

Vaccination appointments are available through Centre Volunteers in MedicineMount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and providers listed at vaccines.gov.

All individuals age 12 and older are eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot. All individuals 50 and older and certain immunocompromised individuals are now eligible for a second booster shot.
