State Rep. Paul Takac, D-College Township, will host a free event this week to educate older constituents about protecting against scams.
The Scam Seminar & Senior Fair will be held on Thursday, May 23, at Centre Care, 250 Persia Road in College Township.
“In today’s rapidly changing world, it is crucial that we remain vigilant against the ever-increasing and evolving threat of scams, particularly those targeting our senior community,” Takac said in a news release. “That’s why we’re hosting the upcoming Scam Seminar and Senior Fair, which will provide important and up-to-date information and tools to safeguard our older adults from fraudulent schemes. Knowledge is power, and educational events like this empower our seniors to recognize and stand strong against such deception.”
The Senior Fair is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the Scam Seminar is planned from 1 to 3 p.m.
The day will feature activities with representatives from Pennsylvania state agencies, including the Department of Banking and Securities, Department of Aging and the Office of Attorney General, among others, who will provide education and tools to help attendees identify and prevent the latest scams affecting communities.
“Centre Care is looking forward to showcasing our facility and partnering with Representative Takac for the event,” Betsy Boyer, Centre Care board president, said. “Representative Takac has been a strong advocate for Centre Care in Harrisburg and we look forward to making this an annual event.”
Registration is not required, but residents residents are encouraged to RSVP or call Takac’s office at (814) 308-0569 to reserve their spot.
