Ferguson Township, Millheim Borough and the Happy Valley Adventure Bureau are partnering to promote agritourism in Centre County by hosting the annual Route 45 Getaways event from July 28 to Aug. 6.
Route 45 Getaways will feature more than 30 destinations that highlight local farms, small businesses and artists along Route 45 from Penns Valley to Pine Grove Mills. Participating businesses will host either an art or music event, with gift cards or prizes as giveaways.
Pine Grove Mills and Millheim will serve as the main anchor points for the nearly 25-mile stretch of Route 45 that connects the two towns. Boalsburg will serve as a destination location as well.
The Valley Community Business Alliance in Millheim (VCBA) is the main organizer for this year’s event. Robert Zeigler, the president and a committee member of the VCBA, believes that the event is a great opportunity for the community to come together.
“The heart of this event really comes from the various community and business leaders working together to offer something for everyone who lives near Route 45,” he said. “Ultimately, Route 45 Getaways helps bring communities together in a fun way.”
Ferguson Township manager Centrice Martin also believes that the event will be a great success.
“It’s great to see local businesses, farms and artists get the tourism and attention they deserve,” he said. “As someone who grew up in Penns Valley and now works on the other end of Route 45 in Ferguson Township, it is an amazing thing to be a part of.”
Funding for Route 45 Getaways comes from a grant made possible by The Happy Valley Adventure Bureau and the Centre County Board of Commissioners. Local municipalities have also contributed to the event.
