A popular 1980s-themed benefit concert is back for another year to support local cancer patients.

The 12th annual “Rock the ’80s” concert benefiting the Bob Perks Cancer Assistance Fund will feature local bands performing music of the 1980s at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24, at The State Theatre, 130 W. College Ave.

Attendees are encouraged to wear ’80s attire when they rock out to a lineup that is scheduled to include Anchor & Arrow, Collapse, Crush, Genuine Red and the Issues, JR Mangan Band, Kevin Briggs Blues Experience, The Extractors and The Long Afternoon. Jeff Brown will once again serve as emcee.

Prizes will be awarded for best solo and best duo/group costumes.

The Bob Perks Fund also will host a pre-show “Totally Rad Reception” with beer wine and appetizers from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Kish Expect More Store, 114 S. Allen St. from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Concert tickets are $40 and reception tickets are $20. Both can be purchased online through The State Theatre website.

Since 2013, “Rock the ’80s” has raised more than $140,000 for the Bob Perks Fund’s work supporting local cancer patients who are unable to work and pay for basic expenses while undergoing treatment.

“The event’s continued success is assured because J. R. Mangan and James Miller provide leadership, and local bands donate their time, energy, good will and talent to support the mission of Bob Perks Fund,” the organization wrote in a news release.

“Rock the ’80s” is one of the key fundraising events that ensures every dollar raised by the Bob Perks Fund is a donated dollar to help local cancer patients.

Since 2006, has raised and distributed more than $2.7 million to pay for the basic expenses of thousands of cancer patients living in Blair, Centre, Clearfield, and Huntingdon Counties and has recently expanded its service area to include Mifflin and Juniata counties. The organization helps cancer patients and their families pay for rent, utilities, food, gas and more so they can focus on their treatment and recovery.
